With the colder weather moving in we have to make some
changes. We leave the shades open now to let the sun and heat in. We are
dressing warmer around the house to keep the heat lower. And we can’t go to the
farmer’s markets anymore as there are none around our house during the winter.
So we are trying a delivery service.
Green B.E.A.N.
Delivery offers home delivery of local produced, organic whole foods. If
you buy a set amount they even delivery for free. There are quite a few options
and we will save our gas going to the store, of course the impact of this is
negated by the delivery truck.
Our fist delivery came two weeks ago:
I wasn’t thrilled. There is too much plastic packaging. And quite
a bit of the produce went bad before we got a chance to eat it. I shot an email
off to their customer service and they explained that they have to use plastic
because of condensation. They apologized for the produce going bad and refunded
us for what we lost but cautioned us to cook, freeze, or can it faster in the
future as it will not stay good long.
Our second delivery came last night:
Knowing what to expect made it better. I’m still not happy
with the compromise of plastic bags but I may have to live with it until the
spring when we can go back to farmer market’s and hopefully grow some of our
own food. All packaging is put back in the bin for recycling after pick up by the way.
