I’ve talked about Jungle Jim’s a few times before. It is a
huge international market in Fairfield, Ohio. It has a large organic/natural
section and there are some local vendors there from time to time. It also has
food from all over the world for sale (stuff like kangaroo meat and ostrich
eggs).
For a while they have been working on another store in
Eastgate, Ohio. This store was planned to be smaller and didn’t have the same
appeal as the original. We weren’t terribly excited about going out there. The
week before last we were in the area so we stopped by.
First impression:
While it is smaller overall (and not quite finished) it is
still a really cool place. You can get just about anything the original has for
sale.
But here is what is really cool about it: the entire inside
of the building is made from repurposed material! Doors made from old wine
crates; walls made from old bowling alley lanes; displays made from old
tractor-trailer floors; the store beams are beams from a demolished factory;
glass shelves that are just old windows; the trash cans used to be whiskey
barrels; the jewelry case was an old deli case; there are also some old movie
props like the Days Of Thunder car.
Imagine what it would be like if every business built
buildings like this? Or every other business?
