The End Of Outdoor Farmer’s Markets And Other Options

With the change in weather it means that the outdoor farmer’s markets are going to go away for winter. The last one I went to only had two booths open. We still have the option of three different indoor markets by us, that we plan on visiting still. But we are looking at other options.

The first option is to grow some of our own food to supplement what we get at the grocery store. At the moment we don’t really have anything to grow any vegetables in. There is some spare wood in the basement and I’ll see what I can throw together with some borrowed tools. That way we buy nothing new and use what we have. In the meantime, we have bought one of these:

It is a Back To Roots indoor mushroom garden. I’ve been messing with it for about 6 or 7 days so far and am just now getting something out of it. I will devote a whole post to it assuming I can get it to work.

Another option we have is Green B.E.A.N. delivery:

It is local service that delivers locally grown, organic produce to your home. They claim to reuse or recycle all of their packaging.

So we are going to try them both out and see what we think. The most important thing is to not get complacent and give up on the green dream just because it will be more difficult for a few months.
