For the last few years we’ve been having problems with our
heat pump. Last year we started to have problems with our forced air
unit/electric heat as well. These last few months have been the worst: we were
either really cold waking up to a house that was about 58°F or
waking up to a house that was 87°F. It got so bad that we were throwing the
main breaker to the furnace anytime we left the house. The heat pump was not
working well either. Instead of pumping warm air through the house it was
pumping cold air through the house or it was just not coming on and letter the
electric heat run.
So after quite a bit of savings we decided to replace both of them.
Unfortunately they both starting going down hill real fast and we had to
replace them quickly. We did buy a Tempstar 14 SEER unit so we didn’t do too
bad; in fact we did quite well.
The installation went down fairly smoothly yesterday and
last night and so far today we have really good and consistent heat.
We hope that this new unit will save us some money and use
mush less coal.
Here is an estimate of our old energy use:
And here is the estimate or our new energy use:
Both estimates are based off of the rough size, location,
and dimensions of our home.
Now we only have three more big home modifications left to
save us some money.
You might spend some pennies today for the home modifications, but the savings it can give you can last for a lifetime. I also hope your new heating system can help you save more in the future. How's it now? Have you seen some change in your energy consumption? :)

The new heat-pump works great! Over the summer we saw a huge drop in energy consumption/expense. We'll be getting our first bill since we had to run the heat in the next few days. I'm expecting to see a large drop here as well.
DeleteWith our first bill for the colder weather we are down 35% in energy consumption and cost!
